MAPS Academy Site Coordinator:

MAPS Academy is geared towards middle school students in Hawthorne, Torrance, and the Greater Los Angeles Area. With the aim of empowering and instilling confidence in students, our curriculum focuses on goal setting and the journey to college/higher education. Further, MAPS Academy students are encouraged to advocate for themselves and their community through engaging in important discussions at site and applying their knowledge to their surroundings.

The Community College Site is the newest in the maps lineup. We work with students from El Camino College and the Hawthorne Math and Science Academy. We seek to provide aspiring transfers and high school seniors with resources for college admissions, advisement for applications, workshops for financial aid, and networking for career development.

Our ISLAH site is tailored to the 6th through 8th grade students. With the aim of preparing them for high school, our curriculum focuses on skill building and goal setting. Further, students are encouraged to consider their career ambitions through engaging in conversation and fun activities led by MAPS volunteers. Additionally we provide subject specific tutoring working alongside the teachers at ISLAH Academy.

College Day

This annual event, hosted by UCLA’s MSA, invites Muslim students from Los Angeles to join undergraduate students on campus for a fun day of workshops, mentorship and encouragement to pursue higher education.
