MAPS Academy
MAPS Academy is geared towards middle school students in Hawthorne, Torrance, and the Greater Los Angeles Area. With the aim of empowering and instilling confidence in students, our curriculum focuses on goal setting and the journey to college/higher education. Further, MAPS Academy students are encouraged to advocate for themselves and their community through engaging in important discussions at site and applying their knowledge to their surroundings.

ISLAH Academy Middle School
Our ISLAH site is tailored to the 6th through 8th grade students. With the aim of preparing them for high school, our curriculum focuses on skill building and goal setting. Further, students are encouraged to consider their career ambitions through engaging in conversation and fun activities led by MAPS volunteers. Additionally we provide subject specific tutoring working alongside the teachers at ISLAH Academy.

MAPS Community College
The Community College Site is the newest in the maps lineup. We work with students from El Camino College and the Hawthorne Math and Science Academy. We seek to provide aspiring transfers and high school seniors with resources for college admissions, advisement for applications, workshops for financial aid, and networking for career development.

Sites We’ve Served
Jordan High School
Located in Watts, Los Angeles, Jordan High School was the first site that MAPS volunteers attended. In the 2019-2020 academic school year, MAPS volunteers worked with 11th and 12th grade students, supporting them with school work and empowering them to create career and personal goals. We are working toward returning to working in the Jordan community as we have for the past 20 years.
Los Angeles School of Global Studies (LASGS)
LASGS is a high school located in Downtown LA! MAPS volunteers joined the site coordinator weekly to support students with SAT prep and college applications. Moreover, MAPS volunteers shared their experiences and explored a number of topics including financial literacy and goal setting. MAPS students at LASGS moved on to pursue their bachelors at Harvard, UCLA, UCSD and more!
ISLAH Academy High School
This site is catered towards the high school students that have attended ISLAH Academy. Most of these students have been with MAPS since their elementary years. With the goal of empowering students through their journey to higher education, our curriculum focuses on college preparation and career planning. MAPS volunteers are encouraged to share their own experiences with students, allowing for candid conversations on topics related to personal and academic growth.
Institute of Knowledge
Our newest MAPS site is catered towards 9th and 10th graders at IOK. With the aim of preparing IOK students for their transition to community college and beyond, our curriculum will focus on instilling a sense of confidence and motivation. Because of the distance of this site from UCLA, MAPS is committed to quarterly workshops and events for this community of scholars in Diamond Bar.
